Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contract Meter Readers.

121.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the present position regarding the insurability of contract meter readers with the ESB under the Social Welfare Acts.

122.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has now made a decision on the question of insurable employment of ESB contract meter readers under the Social Welfare Acts.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 121 and 122 together.

The question as to the insurability under the Social Welfare Acts of employment as a contract meter reader by the ESB was raised some time ago and, following an appeal against a decision given by a deciding officer in a typical case, it was decided by an appeals officer that such employment not being under a contract of service, is not insurable under the Acts.

That decision is being applied to all other meter readers similarly employed but it is open to any meter reader affected to request a decision in his case and, if dissatisfied, to appeal against it.
