Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit Increases.

125.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if in view of the increased cost of living he will consider paying before Christmas the increased rates granted to recipients of social welfare benefits and applicable from 3rd January 1969.

The commencement date for the increased rates referred to is laid down in the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1968. To pay the benefits in advance of that date would require amending legislation which is not contemplated.
