asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what estimated wage bill subsidy, if any, is paid to industrialists by the State (a) in the Shannon Industrial Estate and (b) other industrial development areas.

No wage bill subsidy is paid by the State to industrialists in the Shannon Industrial Estate or in any other area. The Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited are empowered to give grants towards the training of workers in respect of new industries at Shannon. An Foras Tionscal are authorised to give grants of a similar nature elsewhere in the country. These grants are for limited periods and terminate when the workers are fully trained.

In the year ended 31st March, 1968 a total of £33,844 was paid by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited by way of grants for the training of workers. The corresponding payment by An Foars Tionscal in respect of other areas of the State amounted to £158,970.
