asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on the achievements and progress made by the small industries division of his Department in County Limerick to date.

A total of 38 industries in County Limerick have been examined to date by the small industries division of the IDA. Of these, 32 were existing industries and six were proposed new ones. Total employment provided at the present time by the 32 existing industries is approximately 300 people. The largest firm visited had 34 employees and the smallest had one.

Of the 38 industries examined, a total of 17 have so far been assisted in various ways. Seven of these have been given financial assistance while ten have been given assistance other than financial, e.g. with technical, marketing and organisational problems.

A study was commenced approximately six months ago into the light engineering enterprises in the county. These provide a machinery repair and manufacturing service to the local agricultural and industrial community. Work on this study is proceeding.
