asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of firms who applied for adaptation grants in 1968; the number approved; and the total amount granted.

No applications for adaptation grants were received during 1968. The statutory period within which such applications could be made expired on 30th September, 1967.

Two hundred and thirty applications for adaptation grants, received on or before 30th September, 1967, were approved by An Foras Tionscal during the period 1st January 1968 to 30th June, 1968, involving a total amount of £3,336,515 in grants. I have announced a scheme of reequipment grants and applications for these grants are being considered by the IDA in anticipation of the passing of the necessary legislation.
