Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Assembly of Polish Motor Vehicles.

148.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to a report of a proposal to assemble Polish motor vehicles in this country; if any facilities have been granted for this project; and, if so, if he will indicate the extent of these facilities.

I am aware of the reported proposal to assemble Polish motor vehicles in this country. To date, no specific proposal for the establishment of this project has been received by the Industrial Development Authority and, therefore, the last two parts of the question do not arise.

Has any approach at all been made?

The person concerned saw me—he may have seen the Industrial Development Authority also— but only with a very preliminary, very outline, project. He was to submit a detailed proposal but it has not yet been received.

Do I take it that in the event of consideration being given, the position of existing assemblers will be taken into account?

Yes, this would, of course, be considered.
