Vol. 237 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Diversification of Export Outlets.

2.

asked the Taoiseach what extended trading relationships he envisages for Ireland over the next four years in the event of this country's non-entry into the European Economic Community before then.

Apart from the question of the timing of our accession to the European Economic Community, it is the Government's policy to encourage and facilitate as far as possible the diversification of export outlets. I can assure the Deputy that all opportunities for extending our trading relations continue to be intensively pursued. I might mention that preparations for the negotiation of a trade agreement with Japan are under way and consideration is being given to the possibility of concluding trade agreements with some of the countries of Eastern Europe.
