Vol. 237 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farrowed Sow Subsidy Scheme.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will extend the farrowed sow subsidy scheme for western counties to cover Cork county.

The western part of County Cork is of course included in the scheme, which is specifically aimed at encouraging pig production in western areas and is not intended as a scheme for the country generally. There are other aids to pig production, such as guaranteed minimum prices for good quality pigs, generous housing grants, special assistance for accredited herds, and grants for large-scale pigfattening enterprises, which apply to the whole country.
