Vol. 237 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Project Grants.

49.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that farmers along the Anahala valley area of Macroom, County Cork, are deprived of land project grants because of the flooding of their lands from a water course which is the property of the ESB; and what steps he proposes to take to rectify the matter.

I am aware that it has not been found possible to design a satisfactory scheme under the Land Project for the drainage of certain lands in the Anahala valley area of Macroom because of an unsatisfactory outlet drain, the level of which is controlled by the level of the water in the artificial lake created under the Electricity Supply Board's Lee HydroElectric Scheme. The area involved is small and the potential of the land concerned is poor.

In the absence of a satisfactory outlet for the drainage of these lands there are no steps which my Department can take to rectify the matter.
