Vol. 237 No. 10

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1 and 7 and in No. 7 Votes 27 to 33, inclusive, and Votes 20 to 25, inclusive. Private Members' Business will be taken from 6 to 7.30 p.m., Motion No. 22.

I wonder would the Taoiseach, in view of its urgency and importance, provide Government time for Motion No. 41 on the Order Paper?

I got notice of this only a few minutes ago. Having regard to the shortage of time between now and the Christmas Recess, the volume of business requiring to be done and my own presence in both the Dáil and the Seanad with financial business, I am not prepared to give Government time.

I would like to protest against that decision of the Taoiseach and I do not accept that it was short notice. I gave him notice about 20 minutes to 4 of my intention to ask this question.

That is what I mean.

The Taoiseach did not hear about the restriction imposed by the British Government a few minutes ago. The point I am trying to make is that it appears there was a breach of the Agreement by the British, the Taoiseach had talks with the British and surely it is not anticipated that we are going to conclude in the Dáil for Christmas without any reference to the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Agreement.

We cannot have a discussion on this now.

There are several questions on this matter on tomorrow's Order Paper.

You are trying to rake up mud now.

Is this the man who came back 34 years ago and said he had whipped John Bull.

I did not say so.

(Interruptions.)

He does not know what he is talking about.
