Vol. 237 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Kiosks.

17.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone Kiosk at Greenane, Kanturk, County Cork.

The provision of a third telephone kiosk at Kanturk will be considered when the kiosk programme for the coming financial year is being prepared. The claims of Greenane will be borne in mind in the selection of a site for a further kiosk.

18.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make arrangements to have a public telephone kiosk provided at Kilrane, County Wexford, in view of the closing down of Kilrane post office.

A kiosk is not warranted at Kilrane.

Is the Minister aware that there is no public telephone from Rosslare Harbour to Wexford town and, in view of the expansion in Rosslare Harbour, will the Minister reconsider the provision of a telephone kiosk at Kilrane?

We do review all these cases from time to time. I understand there are two coin box lines in Kilrane village which are available until late at night and that the village is only one mile from Rosslare Harbour where there are two.

None on the pier, though.

The Minister understands, of course, that he proposes to close down Kilrane post office?

That is not part of this question.

Listen. Do not talk nonsense. That was an extra public telephone that was there that is being taken away.

The question concludes with the words "in view of the closing down of Kilrane post office".

Is that being taken away?

We consider that the telephone facilities are sufficiently good in the area for the time being. That is the straight answer.

There was one surplus one until the time you decided to close the post office? Is that it?

We consider that the telephone facilities are good enough for the time being.

19.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider the provision of a public telephone kiosk at Coolgreaney, County Wexford.

A kiosk at Coolgreaney is not warranted.
