Vol. 237 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bathroom Grant.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will authorise payment of a grant towards building a bathroom where reconstruction has already been carried out and grants paid or where reconstruction is not contemplated; and if he will consider payment of a special grant for a bathroom apart from reconstruction.

A normal reconstruction grant may be paid for a bathroom where reconstruction is not contemplated, provided that no such reconstruction work is necessary and that a grant has not previously been paid in respect of the house within a period of fifteen years. Where a reconstruction grant has previously been paid, and the work is undertaken at least five years later, a grant not exceeding £50 is available to provide a bathroom which involves an extension of the floor area of the house. In these circumstances I do not propose to make separate special grants available for bathrooms only.
