Vol. 237 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import Deposit Charges.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what repercussions the recently imposed British deposit charges will have on the export of agricultural products including livestock.

The British import deposit charges do not apply to any agricultural products with the exception of certain nursery stock, trees, plants, cut flowers and bulbs. The special measures taken here to safeguard the interests of Irish exporters will, of course, apply to the latter products.

May I take it that the products of food processing plants such as Erin Foods will not come within the scope of the deposit charges?

The Deputy can take it that that is so—anything in the food line.

What about cattle and beef and bacon?

They are not affected.
