Vol. 237 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary National Schools.

81.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in relation to national schools in North Tipperary (a) the number of schools to be replaced and their location, (b) the number and location of those to be reconstructed and (c) the location of those to be closed.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate, for inclusion in the Official Report, a statement giving in tabular from the information requested by the Deputy at (a) and (b) in this question.

With regard to (c) it is not possible to anticipate what schools may be closed in North Tipperary in the future.

In implementing the policy of securing better education through providing larger school units in a particular area the Department reviews the provision for primary education in the area concerned, especially when the question of replacing a school arises or when other circumstances warrant such review being undertaken. Each case is considered on its merits, the educational interests of the children being the paramount consideration.

Following is the statement:—

North Tipperary: National Schools (a) to be replaced, with location of proposed new schools; and (b) national schools at which major reconstruction schemes are to be carried out and their location.
