asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give details of the number of applications at present before the Industrial Development Authority; the total amount of grants applied for; and the number of new jobs expected to be created by such industries if the grants are approved.

The Industrial Development Authority have at present under consideration 54 detailed applications for new industry grants. The grants sought amount to £13.1 million. The promoters expect the potential employment to be some 6,900 persons. In addition, about 250 applications for grants under the small industries scheme have been received. It is estimated that the grants sought amount to £1 million and that these small industries projects, when in full production, will provide employment for a further 1,000 persons.
