Vol. 237 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land for Caravan Site.

119.

asked the Minister for Lands if his Department have received an application from a firm (name supplied) for the purchase or leasing of land at Castlefreke, County Cork, for the promotion of a caravan site; if it is his intention, at any future time, to let or otherwise dispose of land in the area for the purpose of developing tourist amenities; and if he will give details of the outcome of any discussions he may have had with Bord Fáilte regarding such a project.

An application by the firm in question for the purchase or lease of lands at Castlefreke, County Cork, for development of a caravan site was refused as were other similar applications made in recent years by other interested parties. There is no present intention to alter the decision.

This area which is extensively used by the public is regarded by my Department as an area of high public amenity, a view which is endorsed by both Bord Fáilte and the planning authority. No decision in favour of commercial development will be taken without full consultation with these bodies.
