asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of national income spent by the State in the Budget each year from 1955 to 1968 inclusive.

I assume that the Deputy wants current expenditure by the State as a proportion of GNP, which is the appropriate aggregate for the purpose—and is used in the satistics published at Budget time.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
