Vol. 237 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commercial Bank Assets.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of commercial bank assets at present held in Britain; how these are invested; and the rate of interest.

The external assets of the Associated Banks on 15th October, 1968, amounted to £359 million gross and to £132.5 million net.

The bulk of the gross external assets is invested in British Government securities, money at call and short notice in Great Britain and in loans and advances in Northern Ireland.

I have no information on the rates of interest received by the banks.
