Vol. 237 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manual Workers Holidays.

62.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when it is proposed to give a decision on the claim made by trade unions representing manual and allied employees of his Department for two additional holidays with pay in 1968, two in 1969 and one in 1970.

Three claims for additional holidays were received by my Department from trade unions.

In one case, a claim was made for two additional holidays for certain workers in 1968 and the claim was granted.

In the other two cases, the unions concerned claimed a minimum of 24 holidays per annum. They were informed that the workers on whose behalf the claims were made are already given 23 days holidays, which is five days in excess of the statutory entitlement and that, consequently, the claims made could not be allowed.
