Vol. 237 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Schemes.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has yet received from Killarney Urban District Council revised layout plans for a scheme of 62 local authority houses at Ardshanavooly, Killarney and for a scheme on the field offered by the Mercy Convent for housing; if so, the present position on these matters; and, if not, whether Killarney Urban District Council will submit the proposals urgently in view of the increasing housing needs in Killarney.

Revised layout plans for these schemes have not yet been received in my Department. I am informed by Killarney Urban District Council that preparation of the plans is proceeding and that it is hoped to submit them to my Department shortly.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the provision of houses at Kinsale, County Cork.

I am informed by Kinsale Urban District Council that their proposed scheme of 12 dwellings at Rose Abbey has been advertised for tenders; and that negotiations are in progress for the acquisition of sites for another seven to eight houses. Outline plans have been submitted to my Department for a scheme of six houses at Barrack Street and are being examined. A decision on them will be given by me shortly.

43.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the provision of houses at Crookhaven, County Cork.

I understand from Cork County Council that they are not aware of any immediate need for housing in this area, and have no plans for the provision of a scheme there in their current building programme.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is hoped to start building the proposed National Building Agency houses in Gorey, County Wexford.

I am informed by the National Building Agency that a contractor has been appointed for this scheme, and that work is expected to start in the near future.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction tenders for 40 rural cottages submitted to him by Meath County Council.

These tender proposals are being examined at present by my Department's technical advisers in conjunction with the appropriate officers of the Council. I hope to be in a position to give a decision on them at an early date.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government what housing schemes it is expected that the Dún Laoghaire Corporation will complete during the next twelve months; what other schemes by the Corporation are before his Department for sanction; the location in each area; and when work is likely to be commenced on these schemes.

I am informed by Dún Laoghaire Corporation that they hope to have work completed shortly on a scheme of 18 houses at Rockford; and that while some dwellings may be completed in the scheme of 104 dwellings at Mountown House, it will not be fully completed until May, 1970. There are no further proposals for housing schemes before my Department at present but I have approved in principle of preliminary plans for approximately 900 dwellings at Ballybrack/Loughlinstown, and I understand that the Corporation hope to commence work in 1969 on 142 tenant purchase houses and 172 houses for renting as a first stage of this scheme.

47.

asked the Minister for Local Government what housing schemes it is expected that the Dublin County Council will complete in the Rathdown area during the next twelve months; what other schemes by the council are before his Department for sanction; the location in each area; and when work is likely to be commenced on these schemes.

I understand from Dublin County Council that they hope to complete two schemes in the Rathdown area during the next 12 months comprising 118 dwellings and 32 private sites at Cabinteely and 28 dwellings at Churchtown; and to have work commenced on an 8-house scheme at Shankill, and on a scheme of 100 dwellings and nine private sites at Dundrum.

There are no other proposals from Dublin County Council for local authority housing schemes in the Rathdown area before my Department at present.
