Vol. 237 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will commence on group water supply schemes at Rising Sun and Templemartin, County Cork.

A yield test on the proposed source for the scheme at Rising Sun showed it to be inadequate, and the possibility of obtaining an alternative source is being investigated.

The scheme at Templemartin is virtually completed.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the number of group water schemes completed in County Wexford in each of the years since 1960, (b) the number of participants in each scheme and (c) the number of applications before his Department now.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the moneys will be made available to Kerry County Council for the head works for the Inch-Castlemaine water scheme to enable the group scheme which is dependent on it to be got under way.

On the latest information available to me the local authority do not regard the Inch-Castlemaine schemes as having a high priority on their public water supply programme.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position relating to the proposed extension of the Barraduff water supply scheme to Carrigeen near Killarney, County Kerry; and if he expects to be in a position to sanction this proposal from Kerry County Council shortly in order to service three group schemes which will cater for 120 dwellings approximately.

Proposals for phase 2 of the Barraduff water supply scheme which were recently submitted by Kerry County Council are under consideration in my Department. I am not yet in a position to say when a decision thereon is likely to issue.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has any proposals to provide a piped water supply for the people of Rathkeevan, Marlfield, Ardgeeha and Powerstown areas of County Tipperary and, in particular, to provide an interim arrangement pending the implementation of the Clonmel regional scheme.

The areas to which the Deputy refers are included in the first section of the Clonmel regional water supply scheme.

As regards interim arrangements, I understand from the local authority that they have no such proposals for Rathkeevan. They are considering the provision of a public water supply in Marlfield based on a local source. The possibility of the formation of a group scheme in Ardgeeha is being investigated, and the design of a group scheme for Powerstown is, I understand, at present before the Council for approval.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and name of all water schemes in south Kerry which are with his Department awaiting sanction.

There are 12 water schemes in South Kerry for which proposals are presently before my Department. Nine of these are public schemes as follows: Valentia Island Water Scheme, Emlaghmore Water Supply Scheme, Templenoe Water Supply Scheme, Caherdaniel Water Scheme, Mid-Kerry Regional Water Supply Scheme, Water Extension to High Street, Caherciveen, Rathmore Water Supply Extension to Shinnagh, Barraduff Water Supply Scheme—Phase II, Killorglin Water Supply Extension to Castleconway, Ballykissane and Onnagarry.

The three remaining schemes are the Cromane and Muinghaphuca, and Emlagh Group Water Schemes.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to state if and when he is prepared to meet the deputation from the Cork County Council to discuss with them the serious position with regard to the long delays in giving sanction for the many water schemes submitted by them to his Department.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of the 7th ultimo on this subject. There has been no change in the position since that date.
