Vol. 237 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Improvement Works.

62.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is in a position to allocate further moneys to the Kerry County Council for the local improvements works to enable the large number of schemes on hand to be cleared.

The total amount available for this purpose in the current financial year has already been allocated to county councils in proportion to the distribution of grants over the five-year period ended 1967-68. Kerry County Council have received their proportionate allocation on that basis and there are no funds available at present from which additional allocations can be made in the present financial year.

The position in relation to expenditure under the Local Improvements Scheme in each county will be reviewed at the end of the present calendar year and the possibility of re-allocating any uncommitted balances will then be considered. I might mention in this connection that I understand that expenditure by Kerry County Council to date is about £4,000, out of their allocation of £42,000 for the year to 31st March next.
