Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Forestry Land.

102.

asked the Minister for Lands the amount of land acquired in County Wexford by the Forestry Branch of his Department in each of the past five years; and the highest price per acre paid for such land.

The amount of land acquired by the Forestry Division of my Department in County Wexford in each of the last five years was 1963-64, 853 acres; 1964-65, 383 acres; 1965-66, 425 acres; 1966-67, 279 acres and 1967-68, 324 acres. The areas classed as productive included in these areas were 840 acres, 373 acres, 414 acres, 278 acres and 307 acres respectively. In introducing the Estimate for Forestry this year, I stated that arising from a new system of land valuation, price should no longer be an obstacle to land acquisition for forestry purposes. The quoting of prices for particular acquisitions of land would not be useful or meaningful.

This would be a lot of information for Deputy Allen if he could spare the time to come in and listen to it.
