Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School.

37.

asked the Minister for Education (a) if contract documents have been prepared for the proposed central school at Derrinagree, County Cork, (b) if it is proposed to advertise it for tender, (c) with whom agreement was reached regarding contribution, and when this agreement was reached, (d) what is the local contribution and (e) whether it is the school site or the septic tank site for which he is awaiting title.

The position with regard to the proposed central school at Derrinagree, County Cork, is that sketch plans have been prepared, an estimate of cost has been arrived at, and agreement has been reached as to the proportions of the cost to be met, respectively, by State grant and local contribution.

The preparation of working drawings, bill of quantities and other contract documents cannot be proceeded with until satisfactory evidence of title to the full plot which will form the site of the school has been produced by the manager. Title documents have been submitted in respect of portion of the site, but not, as yet, for the entire site, which consists of two separate and adjoining lots. According to the approved plans, the school building proper will be situated on portion of each of these lots. I am informed that the legal formalities for the establishment of title to the second lot are almost completed.

The agreement as to the local contribution was reached between my Department and the reverend manager of the school. It is not the practice to disclose the financial arrangements arrived at between my Department and individual school managers in respect of particular school building projects.
