Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensioners.

57.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he can state in simple language the category of old age pensioners who will benefit from the recent proposals that are to take effect from the first week in January, 1969.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the increase in pension for certain incapacitated pensioners which will come into effect from Friday, 3rd January, 1969.

Briefly, the increase is payable to an old age pensioner, male or female, in respect of a daughter or step-daughter who has had to leave her job because she has to stay at home and look after the pensioner.

I have placed in the Library some copies of a leaflet which sets out in detail the conditions under which the increase may be granted.
