Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Assistance Recipients.

58.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to supplement the allowances paid to home assistance recipients in western counties by paying pound for pound, as it is beyond the capacity of these counties to increase the allowances any further and as the allowances paid are not sufficient.

I have no power to do as the Deputy requests.

It is the duty of every public assistance authority under section 19 of the Public Assistance Act, 1939, to give to every person in their public assistance district who is eligible for public assistance such assistance as shall appear to them to be necessary or proper in each particular case.
