Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Living Stabilisation.

61.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the Government have any special proposals under consideration for stabilising the cost of living; and, if so, the nature of such proposals.

The Government have continued in force, by six-monthly continuance orders, the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1965, and, as I have already stated in reply to similar questions, I will continue to exercise the powers which I derive from that order to ensure that prices are not increased unnecessarily. If, however, employment is to be maintained, it is necessary to allow increases in prices to compensate for increased costs over which manufacturers and importers have little control.
