Vol. 237 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Rights of Medical Officers.

87.

asked the Minister for Health if he is prepared to sanction full pension rights for all district medical officers even though they may be classified pro tem as temporary appointees.

While a temporary district medical officer is not a pensionable officer, continuous service for a period immediately preceding his permanent appointment can, if he is appointed to a permanent post, be taken into consideration in the reckoning of his pensionable service when he is retiring from his permanent, pensionable post. Half of such temporary service may be allowed for pension purposes.

It is my intention that a superannuation scheme will apply to doctors participating in the new service when introduced, but I am not yet in a position to indicate what the conditions will be.
