Vol. 238 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Airport Car Park.

20.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the lack of sufficient accommodation in the car park at Dublin Airport; and if he will arrange to have better facilities made available there for the public.

On a few occasions during peak periods accommodation in the car park at Dublin Airport has proved inadequate. Adequate provision for car parking is included in the development works to be carried out over the next three years. Interim improvements will be completed before commencement of the summer peak period.

Will they provide proper facilities to meet passengers?

I was referring to car parks.

That is what I am referring to. You cannot park at present to meet a passenger.

In reply to the Deputy we are having a staff car park for 100 cars arranged which will relieve space in the existing car park. We are also arranging for automatic entrance barriers and ticket-issuing machines which will reduce the delay in the entrance and exit car parks.

But at the arrivals' entrance——

I have given the Deputy the information. We are going to improve the car parking position.

The car parking position and the car facilities at the arrival entrance are different things. The Minister knows Dublin Airport. The car parking is on the left, arrivals' is on the right. At present there is no facility to meet people on the right and you park your car a mile away.

We have a long-term project for the improvement of the Airport in general, if the Deputy wants to ask a question about it.

Will the Minister state what facilities there are for people meeting arrivals at Dublin Airport?

If they arrive on time they are able to use the car park.

They are not allowed to.

The Minister, I am afraid, does not know about this because he gets into the VIP area, properly I might add.
