Vol. 238 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Poteen Manufacture.

39.

Mr. O'Malley

asked the Minister for Finance if he is prepared to allow a legalised distillery for the manufacture of poteen, for export only, in east County Limerick in view of the serious lack of employment in that area and the likely demand in the United States.

It is open to any person to set up a distillery subject to compliance with the ordinary requirements of the laws relating to the production and marketing of spirits, in particular the excise laws administered by the Revenue Commissioners.

God rest poor Peadar Cowan.

It will hardly provide 100,000 new jobs.
