Vol. 238 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Re-Equipment Grants.

86.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in order to relieve financial pressure on developing industries, he will expedite the introduction of legislation to provide for the payment of re-equipment grants which have been sanctioned by An Foras Tionscal in recent months; and when the necessary legislation will be introduced.

87.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number and total amount of re-equipment grants approved by An Foras Tionscal up to the latest convenient date; and when they will be paid.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 86 and 87 together.

The Industrial Development Authority is the body which will be empowered to make re-equipment grants, and legislation to enable the Authority to make these grants will be introduced during the coming months.

As already announced, re-equipment undertaken after 1st March, 1968, will be eligible to be considered for a grant. Between that date and 31st January, 1969, the Industrial Development Authority have decided in 161 cases that, subject to the enactment of the necessary legislation, they will be prepared to make re-equipment grants available. The total amount of grant involved is £1,404,340.

Payment of these grants will be made when the necessary legislation has been enacted.
