Vol. 238 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork B and I Lairage.

10.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is a fact that the B and I lairage in Cork is to be dismantled; and if he is aware that such dismantling prior to the completion of the erection of new lairage at the Cork Harbour Commissioners' Tivoli site would be gravely prejudicial to cattle shipments from the port of Cork.

The B and I have not used their lairage at Cork since November, 1967 and it has not been used by other parties since September, 1968. The B and I require suitable and convenient space for the assembly of containers as the present compound on the John J. Horgan Wharf is inadequate and the company have been prosecuted and fined for obstruction of the roadway. The company are, therefore, exploring the possibility of converting the present lairage, which is their own property, for use as a container compound but they have not yet taken any final decision in the matter.

I would hope that a satisfactory solution to this problem can be reached by discussion between the parties directly concerned.
