Vol. 238 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the Shannaghmore-Shannaghbeg group water scheme, County Galway.

No progress could be made on this scheme in the absence of an adequate source. The public water supply to Glenamaddy has been augmented recently and the technical problems involved in supplying the group from that supply are being investigated.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider establishing a special sanitary scheme for the drumlin soil area in view of the cost and difficulties of well engineering in the area and the importance of having a large supply of water for dairying and pig rearing; and if he will arrange that this scheme will cover agricultural as well as domestic services.

Sanitary services schemes in this general area already qualify for a special high rate of subsidy and I have no evidence that the introduction of a scheme, as suggested by the Deputy, would achieve any more effective results than the present arrangements.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed water supply scheme for Killagrohan-Scarteen, Mallow, County Cork.

The position as regards this scheme is still as indicated in my reply to the Deputy's question of 10th July, 1968. The scheme has not been accorded a high priority by the local authority.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed water scheme for Milltown, County Galway.

The appointment of a consulting engineer to prepare a preliminary report and estimate for a water supply scheme for Milltown, County Galway, was approved by my Department on the 28th May, 1964.

On the latest information available to me, however, the local authority do not regard the scheme as having a high priority on their water and sewerage programme.

Could the Minister for Local Government give me any indication as to when Milltown will get a water scheme?

No. The local authority do not consider it as having a high priority.

I am aware that the local authority——

It is the local authority the Deputy would want to get in touch with.

Galway County Council is controlled by Fianna Fáil. The Minister would want to get in touch with his own Party.
