Vol. 238 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vehicle Fumes.

32.

asked the Minister for Justice how many prosecutions have issued in the last year for which statistics are available for the use of mechanically propelled vehicles in such a manner as not to prevent as far as is reasonably possible the emission of offensive or obnoxious fumes.

Separate statistics in respect of such prosecutions are not compiled. I understand from the Garda Síochána the number of prosecutions is very small.

Have there been many? The Minister for Local Government, if the Minister for Justice is speaking to him, will confirm that he told us the other day there is ample power to deal with this matter and that it is being dealt with.

There is ample power. The number of offences is obviously very small.

But nothing is being done about it despite what the Minister for Local Government said.

Of course there is.
