Vol. 238 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Camp Electrician.

36.

asked the Minister for Defence why when an electrician was to be appointed on the Curragh Camp all applicants were told that they must reside on the camp because of the necessity to be near the magazine; and why such having been then stated the person selected (name supplied) has been permitted not to fulfil this condition.

Six serving electricians who applied for the post of electrical foreman at the Curragh were interviewed and a selection was made on the merits, without regard to the residence stipulation. The person selected was informed that he would have to take up residence in the house provided for the foreman but he was not asked to do so pending the execution of necessary renovations. In the meantime, there have been certain developments affecting the case, including the installation last month of a stand-by generator for the magazine. The necessity for requiring the electrical foreman to reside in the camp is at present being reviewed in the light of these developments.
