Vol. 238 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Irish Manuscripts.

44.

asked the Minister for Education if the Government have any plans, either by the introduction of legislation or by other means, to control the export of Irish manuscripts, books, paintings and other treasures; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The control of such exports is already provided for in existing legislation, namely, the National Monuments Acts, 1930 and 1954, and the Documents and Pictures (Regulation of Export) Act, 1945.

The present arrangements are considered to be sufficiently flexible to meet our needs.
