Vol. 238 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Biscuit Imports.

52.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that large quantities of biscuits are being imported into this country that could and should be produced here; and if there is any way by which he can prohibit these imports.

Whilst imports of biscuits have increased in recent years, exports of Irish biscuits have also risen. Net imports represent only a very small proportion of the total market. In the circumstances the question of prohibiting the importation of biscuits does not arise.
