Vol. 238 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factories in Drumlin Soil Belt.

64.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider building one or two advance factories in the drumlin soil belt so as to counteract the heavy emigration that takes place from north-west of this belt.

Under the existing legislation neither the IDA nor an Foras Tionscal has power to build advance factories outside industrial estates but I intend to remedy this position in forthcoming legislation. The Deputy's representations will be borne in mind when locations for such factories are being selected.

In view of all the questions put down by Deputy Gibbons I thought he believed an election was imminent. As he is not here the imminence must have faded in his mind, but not in ours.

I think Deputy Gibbons' concern is with the development of industry in his constituency. He may, perhaps, believe that by his activities he will make that more imminent than it would otherwise be.

The Minister cannot have read the Order Paper and read the shower of questions from him for the first time for a long time.
