Vol. 238 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Thalidomide Trial.

78.

asked the Minister for Health whether his Department are taking any steps to assist parents of thalidomide victims to present evidence to the trial, now in progress, of the manufacturers of the drug; if his Department will make claims for compensation on behalf of these parents; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated in my reply to the Deputy on 28th May, 1968, my Department has no standing in relation to civil claims in respect of deformity alleged to have been caused by the drug thalidomide.
