Vol. 238 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cigarette Advertising by RTE.

81.

asked the Minister for Health if he will communicate with the Director-General of Radio Telefís Éireann recommending that no further advertising space for cigarettes should be made available in the Authority's publications.

The Radio Telefís Éireann Authority have already announced their intention to phase out cigarette advertising on their television programmes commencing as from 1st April this year.

While I would prefer that newspapers and periodicals should not provide advertising space for cigarettes, I would not feel justified in singling out the authority mentioned for a recommendation such as the Deputy suggests.
