Vol. 238 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - County Louth Telephone Kiosk.

13.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone kiosk at Kilsaran, County Louth.

A kiosk at Kilsaran is not warranted.

Is the Minister aware that there are 20 relatively new county council cottages there? It is quite a large village with a church, a school, a social club where young people gather to play billiards and table tennis and various other things, and a parochial hall. All those different amenities cause people to gather around the place. Yet the Minister says a kiosk is not warranted. That is quite incorrect.

There is a kiosk three-quarters of a mile away at Castlebellingham which is little used. There are plenty of telephones in the area of Kilsaran which are available in times of emergency.

Is the Minister aware that the only coin box telephone in the village is in a licensed premises, and, therefore, it is not available during the hours when the licensed premises may not be open?

There are other telephones.

There are no other coin box telephones.
