Vol. 238 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Sale of Polish Beetroot.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that jars of Polish produced beetroot are being sold throughout the country in competition with Irish produced beetroot; if it was imported under any licence issued by him; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

Imports of such beetroot are subject to a customs duty of 50 per cent ad valorem plus package duty and bottle duty. No licences remitting duty have been issued and I understand that duty paid imports have been relatively small.
