Vol. 238 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Fruit and Vegetable Imports.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he can give details of the types of fruit and vegetables imported by this country from Britain and Europe similar to Irish produce and which are sold in opposition to the home produce.

For information as requested I would refer the Deputy to the monthly and annual Trade Statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office and published by the Stationery Office. Of course, quantitative controls and or protective duties apply to imports generally of those types of fruit and vegetables grown here. Licences facilitating imports are not granted until home producers have been given an adequate opportunity of disposing of their fruit and vegetable crops each year.
