Vol. 238 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Sportsfield.

69.

Mrs. Burke

andMr. Donnellan asked the Minister for Lands if he has received an application from a sports organisation in Ballymoe, County Galway, for a sports field; and, if so, if he will have a field made available for this organisation.

The Land Commission have received such an application and it is at present under consideration.

Can the Minister give me any indication of what the prospects are of the sports organisation getting this sportsfield from the Land Commission?

I cannot give the Deputy any indication at the moment, but I am sure he is aware that the committee received a sportsfield from the Land Commission some years ago. The Land Commission are, however, considering the present situation.

I am aware that the committee received approximately three acres but this is completely inadequate as a sportsfield, as I am sure the Minister will appreciate. As far as I know, it is the intention of the Land Commission to take this sportsfield in Ballymoe for dividing. Also, as the Minister has appointed trustees, could he tell me exactly how these trustees are appointed?

We seem to be having a debate on this question. If the Deputy has a question to ask, he is entitled to do so.

As far as the original field was concerned this was granted by the Land Commission to trustees and, as I say, an application for a new sportsfield is now being considered. There is nothing further I can add at the moment.

Question No. 70.

If the Ceann Comhairle does not wish me to continue——

If the Deputy has a question to ask, he may do so.

Is the Minister further aware of the unsatisfactory position regarding the trustees who are in charge of the sportsfield?

I am not aware of any unsatisfactory position in relation to the trustees but I am aware that there are some difficulties in connection with the whole matter. As I say, I cannot add anything further to the reply. The Land Commission are considering the position.
