Vol. 238 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division.

70.

asked the Minister for Lands when a final decision will be taken on the division of a holding at Bauracharrin, Donoughmore, County Cork.

It is presumed that the question relates to a 32-acre holding in the townland of Barrahaurin which has been surrendered to the Land Commission in exchange for a new holding. The Land Commission are anxious to secure additional land in this district which would enable them to prepare a more balanced scheme of land settlement than the 32-acre holding, by itself, would permit and, to this end, they are at present investigating an offer of another holding in the townland of Barrahaurin.

71.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission intend to divide the Bernard Hehir Estate, Ballinaruane, Menlough, Ballinasloe, County Galway, which has already been acquired.

It is not possible to indicate at present when allotment of this small holding will be feasible. The small area—21 acres—is, in itself, quite insufficient towards relieving local congestion and I am aware that the Land Commission are interested in getting more land in the district.
