Vol. 238 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minister's Visit to Television Studios.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement on his recent visit to Montrose and the subsequent dispute with RTE.

I have no statement to make other than to say I have received a letter of apology from RTE and I therefore regard the matter as closed.

(Cavan): Would the Minister agree he is making too many statements?

Could the Minister give any reason as to why this sort of discourtesy arose on this occasion because I think all of us have had experience of going to Radio Telefís Éireann and receiving in fact a very, very high standard of courtesy from the members of the staff there?

If the Deputy is complaining that what I complained about did not take place he should say so.

I am asking the Minister if he knows why this discourtesy took place on this occasion because it is very exceptional, if it did.

Why ask me?

What did the Minister mean when he said he was "messed about"? The Minister issued a statement that he had been "messed about" by Radio Telefís Éireann. The Minister did not have much interest in the farmers when he left them sitting for 21 days in Merrion Street, but he was "messed about" because he was kept waiting for ten minutes.

This does not arise.

They think they are little tin gods and the people are to genuflect before them.

I extend the normal courtesies to any persons I invite anywhere.
