asked the Taoiseach the value of the pound in November in each of the years 1937, 1947, 1958 and 1968 in present day monetary values.

The estimated amounts which would be required at mid-November, 1968, to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as would £1 at mid-November, in each of the years 1937, 1947 and 1958 are £3 13s 2d, £2 1s 10d and £1 7s 10d respectively. The estimates are based on the retail price index numbers and the latest index available is that for November, 1968.
