Vol. 238 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Airport Extensions.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what progress has been made to date in implementing plans for the extensions at Shannon Airport to cater for the Boeing 747 and the time schedule for completion of the necessary work.

Preliminary site work and piling for the new Terminal and Pier Buildings are nearing completion. The contractor for the steelwork will be appointed within the next week. Tenders for the main building contract and for the extension of the apron will be sought early next month.

It is planned to have the Pier Building with adequate facilities for the handling of Boeing 747 aircraft available for use by May, 1970. The main terminal should be available for use by April, 1971.
