Vol. 238 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turnover Tax.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will now consider the removal of turnover tax from burial expenses.

Undertakers are not liable for turnover tax on their receipts from providing funeral services.

Certain articles used in providing the services may be charged to the undertakers at tax-inclusive prices. It is not feasible in a general turnover tax to exempt these goods.

Is the Minister not aware that an ordinary coffin is taxed up to £6? I suppose the Minister is not interested——

I was very nearly being very interested recently.

God forbid. Will the Minister take his hand out of the grave and not make the cost of dying as high as the cost of living? It is about time the Minister did so.

There are a few political coffins being manufactured.
