Vol. 238 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Matriculation Certificate Fee.

43.

asked the Minister for Education why a pupil successful in his leaving certificate examination has to pay an additional five pounds for his matriculation certificate before entering university.

The regulations for the award of the matriculation certificate of the National University of Ireland, including the regulation with regard to the fee payable in this connection, are made pursuant to the provisions of the Irish Universities Act, 1908. While I have no function in the matter, I understand that it is standard practice here as elsewhere to charge the same fee whether the entrance examination which is taken is the matriculation or other examination which is accepted as equivalent to it.
